My name is Yarma Velazquez, and I am running to represent District 7 on the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education.

When elected, I will work to increase community input in school board decisions, ensure all children in the district achieve a high standard of education no matter their background, and ensure students and teachers can work and learn in a safe, welcoming environment.

I am a mother of two elementary school children in PUSD, Pasadena neighbor, and a third-generation educator. I've been an active parent volunteer at San Rafael Elementary, volunteering in my kids' classrooms as well as in the school's sustainable garden. I am originally from Puerto Rico, but Pasadena is our home. I have worked in education for the last 13 years in the department of Chicano/a Studies at California State University Northridge.

Join me, and we will work together to support and empower teachers and strengthen our Pasadena community.

Yarma is mother to 4th grader Jonathan and 2nd grader Anaya in the Spanish dual language program at San Rafael Elementary School.
